Let’s just see how “good” we really are:
“’None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.’
‘Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.’
‘The venom of asps is under their lips.’
‘Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.’
‘Their feet are swift to shed blood;
in their paths are ruin and misery;
and the way of peace they have not known.’
‘There is no fear of God before their eyes.’” – Romans 3:10-18
Truly, we are all under sin.
Still think you may be a “good” person?
“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.
The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.” – Psalm 14:1-3; cf. Psalm 53:2-3
Whenever you get haughty and begin to think that you are a “pretty good person” and that you do not need God, remember that anything that does not proceed from faith is sin (Romans 14:23). Without faith in Jesus, in other words, you are unable to please God. You behave as a fool and make no mistake; all are wretched sinners in His sight. However, by the blood of Christ, all who have faith in Him and take refuge in Him, are justified saints in His sight. Be humbled this morning by the truth that you are a sinner, I am a sinner, that we are all sinners. Only those who remain unrepentant will be condemned, but all found in Christ Jesus have surpassed condemnation by His grace and redeeming work in His perfect life, obedient/willing death, and victorious/glorious resurrection. Praise be to His Name this morning!
“For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.” – Romans 3:20
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ–by grace you have been saved–and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” – Ephesians 2:5-9
