From the Hymnal: You Never Let Go

With my focus recently being on God and the suffering that Christians are promised to go through under God’s sovereignty, I do not want to fail to express the truth of God’s comfort that He graciously and abundantly provides for us during suffering. Not only am I experiencing this in my own life, but my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ are starting to face increasing opposition from friends and family because of their increased devotion to Christ coupled with their decreased devotion to self. We all can identify in some way or another with suffering, as I have mentioned in my most recent series of posts. However, I pray that there has been an experience of God’s grace in His comfort through the suffering as well. Just as we can be certain that God ordains suffering and intends evil acts of men for our good, we can also be assured in His presence and comfort through our suffering. This has been on my heart today as I fear my focus on suffering is being interpreted as self-pity. Let me assure you that there is no place for the pride of self-pity in the life of the Christian. Christians must humble themselves and accept their suffering at bare minimum. From this point, we as Christians are to glorify God, find joy in Him, and also trust in His sovereignty. Trusting involves receiving His comfort and not sulking in your suffering. May God’s comfort hold your head above water and as you continue on your journey in life, may He hold your hand during your season of suffering. We are not in this alone as suffering for Christians is common and prevalent. God comforts us and we are to extend this same comfort to others who are being afflicted as we are. Trusting in Him will only glorify God more while increasing your joy. Enjoy this passage and song. May they, by the grace of God, provide you with true comfort in this night of your suffering. He is the great Comforter and He never lets go!

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Your perfect love is casting out fear                                                                                                                                                                                              And even when I’m caught in the middle
Of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back, I know You are near

And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

And I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth

Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

Yes, I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You, still I will praise You

Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
